🐪 Camel Kebab in Bahrain – Our Urfa Kebab, Made with Camel Meat

At Konyalı Ahmet Usta in Manama we took one of Türkiye’s most famous kebabs, the Urfa kebab, and made it with camel meat — Turkish grill tradition and the Arabian Peninsula’s oldest meat, together on one plate.

How our camel kebab was born

Urfa kebab comes from Şanlıurfa in south-eastern Türkiye: minced meat seasoned with mild spices, pressed onto a wide skewer and grilled over charcoal. It is mild rather than hot, so the flavour of the meat itself is the star.

Camel meat has been part of the Arabian table for centuries. Cooking in Bahrain, our masters asked a simple question: what if we made Urfa kebab the Turkish way — the same mincing, the same spices, the same charcoal grill — but with camel meat?

The result is a kebab that is tender and juicy, with a deeper taste than beef, while staying true to the Urfa original. As far as we know, we are the first restaurant in the world to serve Urfa-style kebab made from camel meat, and we are proud to serve it here in Manama.

Why camel meat?

  • Lean: camel meat is generally lower in fat than beef and lamb.
  • A source of high-quality protein.
  • Naturally provides iron, zinc and B vitamins.
  • A traditional meat of the Arabian Peninsula, enjoyed for centuries.
